It was.

Did it at least have cream cheese on it?

Scrambled an egg onto some corned beef and had that on toast, plus a coffee. Kicking Horse Three Sisters.

This question implies I’ve gotten out of bed.

Had a protein bar at my desk at work.  It was underwhelming.

Biscuits and gravy, a blueberry muffin, milk and apple juice. I mentioned the teabag and coffee incident in a post earlier today.

In a way I’m looking forward to getting home and checking to see how much I’ve lost eating hospital meals for four or five days (or however many days it takes until I'm released) , but I also want to get home because there’s a ribeye and a pound of maple bourbon bacon waiting for me...

That does sound nice.

I took the leftover breakfast potato and onion I made yesterday and fried it again with two eggs, fucked it up with cheese, then threw hot sauce on it and chased the whole thing with five cups of coffee.

In a way, your breakfast sounds like a concoction we have around here called a slinger. “ A slinger is an American Midwest   diner specialty typically consisting of two eggs, hash browns , and a hamburger patty (or any other meat) all covered in chili con carne (with or without beans) and generously topped with cheese ( cheddar or American ) and onions. The eggs can be any style. Hot sauce is usually served on the side. The slinger is considered to be a St. Louis late-night culinary original. It is described as “a hometown culinary invention: a mishmash of meat, hash-fried potatoes, eggs, and chili, sided with your choice of ham, sausage, bacon, hamburger patties, or an entire T-bone steak.”

I like this dish but I can’t do it more than once a year...

Coffee and a banana

Not big on breakfast unless it’s a weekend brunch

Lazy late lunch.

Batchelors Broccoli & Cheese Pasta & Sauce.

Add hot water, (milk and butter also if you choose), simmer for five minutes stirring from time to time.

Kinja'd!!!

I made two packets up and served in a large bowl.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s quite tasty, has flavour and fills a hole.

I’m chomping unsalted almonds and sipping a D iet Cherry Dr. Pepper.  I have a steamer bag of plain corn on my desk, but I might not eat that for another hour or so.  Let’s call that one “brunch”.

Too bad - that’s the best part, especially at 6 am (nah, not really - I’m a chili snob and I don’t like most of the canned stuff they put on these). The best part about a slinger is that there aren’t really any hard and fast rules and you can make it up as you go along. There’s a reason that one of the nicknames  for this dish is ‘garbage plate’

I u sed to be a really picky eater. Not so much anymore, but I still have some things that I flat out don't like, and chili is one of those. I also gate condiments. Mustard, ketchup, relish, all that crap.

I guess I have a few dislikes as well. I like dill relish, but sweet relish is disgusting. I have at least half a dozen kinds of mustard in my house, but not a drop of ketchup. And now that I’ve discovered the delicacy that is the Castelvetrano olive, I cannot eat any other variety of green olive. Thankfully Costco can indulge my craving with huge jars of them for just $7.99, whereas most grocery stores charge $5.99 for a jar that’s probably one sixth the size. I usually throw them in my pasta for a little variety if I’m not eating a bowl full of them straight up. I’ll have to try one in a martini...

I’m going healthier when I can. Other times, like, when Weinerschnitzel sends me coupons, all bets are off.

As an update to make the tale even more sad, I just ate the corn and now I’m hungry.

The other day when I was at work I asked my wife to pick up some honey habanero marinated steak tips for me to grill for us when I got home. I always get a pound, she got 2lb. So I had left over uncooked steak tips.

This morning I grilled  myself the remaining steak (about 1/4lb) and some stone ground grits. Put the steak on top of the grits for maximum deliciousness. That will make up for the pain of eating on the road the next 4 days at work.
